Library Discussions

November 6, 2005, 2 p.m. Evanston Public Library will host a discussion on 'Is fine art for the public, or just collectors?' The panel will include John Brunetti, art critic and curator at the Evanston Art Center; Bruno Surdo, artist and founder of the School of Representational Art in Chicago; and Amy Brandolino, Educational Program Director at the Block Art Museum. We had a good discussion about where the art world is now, and where it may be going. Book Release

December 2004. The book release party was very well attended especially given that it was held a week before Christmas. Thanks to artist, Al Tyler; juror, John Brunetti; art collector, Sherry Siegel; and gallery owner, Susan Gescheidle for attending!

Events to bring artists and the public together include book signings, and exhibits and arts festival.

Book Signings

March 13, 2005. Barnes & Noble, Old Orchard, Skokie, Illinois. Signing with artists Geoffrey Bent, Sean Culver, Melanie Deal, Beatrice Fisher, Cynthia Heinz and photographer Gerald Hoos. Thanks to artscope.com critics Jurek Polanski and Katherine Lieber for attending!

April 9, Saturday, 5 - 6:30 p.m. Women & Children First, Chicago. Signing and wine/cheese reception with artists Antonia Contro, Barbara Cooper, Susan Hall, Laura Kina. Thanks to artist Renee McGinnis; artscope.com critics Jurek Polanski and Katherine Lieber; and gallery owner, Melanee Cooper for attending.

June 17, Friday, noon - 1 p.m. Barnes & Noble, 728 N. Waukegan Rd., Deerfield. Signing with artist Josef Sumichrast.

July 16, Saturday, 2 p.m. Barnes & Noble, 47 E. Chicago Ave. Suite 132, Naperville. Signing with Chad Wooters, Eric Semelroth and Cynthia Heinz who all shared their techniques.

July 21, Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Barnes & Noble, 1441 W. Webster Ave., Chicago. Signing with Scott Bullock, Susan Hall, Niki Kriese, and Yvette Kaiser Smith preceeded by presentations and questions and answers about the book and individual artist's work.

Exhibits

June 2005. The Fine Arts Building Gallery (FABG) held an invitational group exhibit based on the book. The works of 33 featured artists were shown throughout the month of June. The opening night was Friday, June 3, 5-8 p.m. See www.artscope.net for a review of the show.

June 23, 5-8 p.m. Art Resources in Teaching (ART) hosted a book signing and fundraising event at the FABG. Visit http://www.artresourcesinteaching.org Thanks to art collector, Steve Kluck for attending!

June 28, 6-7:30 p.m. The U of Chicago Alumni Association hosted a tour of the exhibit by John Brunetti, a juror of the book and an art critic.

Arts Festival

October 1-2, 2005. Glenwood Ave. Arts Fest at Glenwood and Morse in Rogers Park, Chicago. We had a good 2 days selling the Crow Woods titles, Curt Frankenstein's prints and Sharon DeLaCruz' quilts.
